In 2000, Elementis plc grouped together the former businesses of Rheox, Daniel Products and Hardman into one, resulting in Elementis Specialties, Inc.. Elementis Specialties is a premier producer of rheological additives and was the first to introduce organoclays, castor based thixotropes, wax based anti-settling agents and exterior alkali swellable thickeners. Our major products (BENTONE®, RHEOLATE®, THIXATROL®, M-P-A®, SLIP-AYD®, DIPERSE-AYD®, TINT-AYD® and others) enhance the feel, flow and finish of everyday products including surface coatings, building products, drilling fluids and cosmetics. We also produce a variety of specialty urethane, epoxy and depolymerized rubber products known by the tradenames KALAR®, ISOLENE®, DPR®, ECLIPSE® and others. The company is managed on a global basis from its headquarters in Hightstown, NJ, USA.
 Elementis Specialties has deep historical roots through its former businesses. Rheox has castor based products that were first trademarked in the early 1900's. The company invented organoclays and promoted their first use in oil and solvent systems in 1949. Daniels Products was formed in 1957 and through its unique dispersion technology created successful lines of colorants, wax dispersions and defoamers. Hardman grew from its 1906 beginning in rubber processing to a quality producer of epoxy, urethane and elastomer products. This combination of companies has given Elementis Specialties a unique perspective in specialty chemicals and has resulted in many new patented products.

 Coatings and inks
Coatings and inks is the largest of our business areas. We manufacture and market an extensive line of performance-enhancing additives providing system flow control, film enhancing properties, stability and ease of manufacturing. Our extensive product range includes rheological control agents, color pigment dispersions, dispersants, defoamers, slip and mar agents, specialty driers, wax dispersions and emulsions, flatting agents, interfacial tension modifiers and a specialty anti-corrosive pigment.
Consumer market
The Consumer product business unit is a leading supplier of specialty rheology control agents for both aqueous and non-aqueous based cosmetic, household and agricultural applications. We also market a wide range of ultra-fine zinc oxides that give superior UV-A/UV-B protection in sunscreens and cosmetics.
 Oil market
The Oil field chemicals business unit is a leading supplier of specialty additives to the global oil field services industry, with a primary focus on the drilling fluids and well services sectors. We specialize in rheology, solids suspension and fluid loss control.
Specialty markets
The Specialty markets business unit operates in the markets of adhesives and sealants, ceramics, construction, lubricants, grease, OEM adhesives and plastics and rubber. Our products can be found on the space shuttle, in sports equipment, automobiles and concrete, to name a few of the areas that we impact. We continually work with industry leaders to develop value-added applications for our elastomer intermediates, compounded systems, performance polymers, rheological additives, and specialty dispersion additives.

Moving Technology Forward
Elementis Specialties continuously develops new additives to meet the needs of the latest technologies. In addition, the Elementis Specialties laboratories offer access to sophisticated testing equipment for measuring the full range of rheological behavior. The analytical department utilizes some of the latest technologies in X-ray diffraction, atomic absorption, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography, colorimetry and mass spectroscopy. It provides support to R&D, technical service and manufacturing. Our analytical department also develops quality control analytical methods to ensure high quality products.
Elementis Specialties meets the challenges of its diverse markets by maintaining applications laboratories for each industry, including paints, inks, greases, oil, cosmetics, adhesives and sealants.
